WHITE ISLAND ACTIVE.

OUTBREAK IN NEW PLACE. White Island has been particularly active during the last few days (says the Saturday’s Auckland Herald). Large volumes of steam have been seen issuing from the extreme eastern end of the island where steam has not previously been noticed, and it is surmised that a new blowhole has broken out near the water’s edge. A fishing party in the vicinity of the island during the week-end noticed nothing unusual except minute jets of steam rising along the foreshore of a small bay at tne extreme eastern end. If there has been a fresh outbreak, which .seems probable, it has occurred only during the last few days. Old residents often predicted that the island would blow up at a future date, and if the blowhole is near the water’s this may hasten the end.
