Referring to the cable sent by the Alliance of Labor, warning emigrants of unemployment here, Sir Francis Bell said the alliance had a perfect right to send its views, but the Government would exercise its right to correct any inaccuracies made in regard to immigra< tion and unemployment. RATE CLERK’S THEFTS. Hastings, May 5. James Patrick Flinn, late rate clerk, pleaded guilty to four informations of theft of £391, the moneys of the Hastings Borough- Council. He was committed for sentence at the Supreme Court, Napier. A PROFITABLE DUCK. ' Wellington, May 5. In connection with the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club’s egg-laying competition at Papanui, which concluded on March 31, W. Knight (Wellington) entered three ducks in the single pen competition. One laid 334 eggs in the eleven months of the competition, and the club decided to test the bird for another month and, on April 30, it had laid 363 eggs in 365 days, a world’s record.
