A Lower Valley housewife was very surprised the other day to find a stag in the back yard, says the Wairarapa Age. She immediately called her husband, who shot the animal, and later disposed of its carcase for dogs’ meat, as the head was of very little value. It is reported that the deer are becoming very tame in that part of the district. This was not the first occasion that one has been noticed in the vicinity of a homestead. Another venturesome animal approached a fencing party a short time ago, and paid the penalty. Nothing in the way of exceptionally good heads has been reported in the Wairarapa this season, although deer are understood to be fairly plentiful.
