In the match against Mr. Lionel Robinson’s eleven the Australians had scored 18 runs without the loss of a wicket (Bardsley J 4, Collins 12) when rain stopped play. Oldfield, Pellew, Mayne and Andrews were j omitted from the Australian side. Rain fell early in the morning. The weather was dull and the wicket slow, but good, at the opening. Armstrong won the toss and sent in Bafdsley and Collins. The bowling was en- ' trusted to Douglas and Gibson, the latter a 5 right-hand medium pace bowler. A light drizzle soon commenced, and sawdust was ! requisitioned, but the rain became heavier ’ and stopped play when it had been in pro--1 gress only twelve minutes. The score was 18, including two extras, with all the wickets still intact. At four o'clock, as the rain continued, play was abandoned for the day. • OXFORD MATCH CURTAILED. • London, May 4.
