RACING COMMISSION.

THE VISIT TO TARANAKI.

The Racing Commission spent yesterday morning at the racecourse, where deputations were received from the Egniont Racing Club and the Waimate Plains Trotting Club. The commission afterwards visited the Opunake Racing Club’s course at Pihama, where a deputation from the club was received. Last night the commission arrived at Stratford, and this morning they will visit the Stratford racecourse and receive a deputation from the club. They will afterwards proceed to Eltham to meet a deputation from the Eltham Racing Club. The commission will arrive in New Plymouth to-night, staying here to-morrow.

New Plymouth will complete the commission’s itinerary, and they will return to Wellington by the mail train on Friday morning. The commission has called a public meeting at Wellington on Saturday io hear speakers for and against the issue of more totalizator permits, after which they will proceed to consider their recommendations to Parliament. The members of the commissjpn are: Messrs. F. Earl, K.C. (chairman), W. E. Bidwill, W. H. S. Morehouse, J. H. Williams, and Major S. Rice. Mr. B. Jj Kelleher is the secretary.
