EVIDENCE AT SYDNEY INQUIRY.

The Cockatoo Commission decided that the dismissal of workmen mod officials at the dock was «Qt within it® jurisdiction, but it was a Cabinet Responsibility. f A sergeant of the State police evidence regarding sand contract®, stating that extensive fraud® were cafFied out in this connection, and the Government was booked up for tons of which were never delivered. Witness added that the sand contractor was inployed on the-island by the Government, but carried on contracting unflei an assumed name. As an employee he was not allowed to contract, but he got his fifteen-year-old daughter to sign Jiig receipts and vouchers in the capacity of contractor.
