WAIKATO MARKET.

At Hamilton on Wednesday we held our first dairy heifer sale. The yarding which was fair, attracted buyers from many outside districts whose help was much appreciated. Although the standard of values was considerably below that ruling at the corresponding period last year, competition was fairly good and as vendors were apparently anxious to sell, a large amount of business was transacted. Prices realised were as follows:—Best 2%-year shorthorn heifers (spring calvers) £7 15s to £9 2s 6d, second quality £6 to £7 10s, best 2-year heifers £6 to £5 15s, backward condition heifers £4 15s to £6. Wilson and Sons, Waimai averaging £B, others £4 5s to £5 10s, fresh conditioned cows £2 5s to £3 15s, store cows £1 to 355, 3-year steers £5 10s, 18-montb empty' heifers £3 2s. Sheep were in moderate supply but few fats were penned. Forward ewes 10s. 9d, store 7s 3d. Pigs also were in shorter supply than usual. Values were if anything easier than last week.
