The New Plymouth Ratepayers’ Association is calling a meeting in the Soldiers’ Chib to-night at 8 o’clock, and is inviting the Employers’ Association and all business people to cp-operate with them in making Friday the market day and the most attractive day of the week to do business in New Plymouth. It is not generally known that by an amending Act of 1920 the Minister has power at any time after the declaration of the poll to gazette the notice fixing the day on which the half-holiday is to be observed. This and a uniform hour for closing on the holiday will be considered by the meeting.
Farmers and others interested will be pleased to learn that Mr. AL T. Priest is prepared to do all kinds of carting with a Leyland truck for one shilling per mile. The service will commence on Monday next. May 8. Orders may be left with Mr. Veale, grocer, Brougham street
