HOSPITAL SUBSIDIES.
NEW PROPOSAL OPPOSED.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night.
A conference of contributing bodies was held at Palmerston North to discuss a proposed increase of Hospital Board levies and a reduced Government subsidy. It was considered the present system of taxation was unreasonable. It was stated the Pohangina County last year paid £B7O in levy and had three patients in the hospital, averaging £290 each patient. The following resolution was carried: “This meeting < i local bodies enters an emphatic protest to the Hospital Commission in regard to the proposed rate of subsidies to be paid hospital boards within this district, which will mean a reduction of 12s 3d in the £, and that the meeting is of opinion that all hospital boards should be treated alike, and that a subsidy of £ for £ should be paid, as the present system means increased subsidies for some hospitals at the expease of others.
