SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
EXPLOSION AT STRATFORD.
YOUNG MAN BADLY BURNED
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night.
A serious accident occurred at the Borough Council’s Diesel station this afternoon, resulting in a young man named P. Beere receiving extensive burns over the whole of hie body. The borough electrical engineer (Mr. L. C. Vicary) states that Beere and another engineer named D. Hi Windleler lit a piece of cotton waste, which they placed under a barrel of crude burning oil to soften. When the oil got heated gas shot out of the barrel, and the oil caught fire, causing an explosion. Beere was standing about a yard from the barrel at the time, and the explosion threw burning oil over the whole of his body. He immediately became a mass of flumes, and it was with, great difficulty that he
was caught by Mr. Windleler, who managed to get him on the ground and smother the flames. In his efforts to remdve the burning clothes Mr. Windleler also had his hands very badly burned. Dr. W. P. Gordon was immediately summoned, and after attending to Beere’s injuries he ordered his removal to tht Stratford Hospital. Mr. Beere is a young man, about 2(; years of age, and is a son of Mr. E. D Beere, of Cloton Road. The burns ok his body are not deep, but are extensive and he is also suffering severely from shock. At a late hour to-night Mr. Beere’i condition was reported as critical.
