HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL.

OLD GIRLS FAREWELL MISS BARR.

A pleasant function took place at-the Victoria League rooms, New Plymouth, last night, when the old girls of the Girls’ High School tendered a farewell to Miss Barr, principal of the school, who recently resigned, and who is leaving New Plymouth. The function was held under the auspices of the Old Girls’ Association, and it marked a, fitting tribute from the old girls of the school to the departing principal. Miss Burrows, a member of the teaching staff, who is leaving to be married, was also a guest of the pld girls . On the arrival of Miss Barr and Miss Burrdws they were presented with bouquets. The evening was spent in competitions ai d musical iteifis, and towards the close presentations were made to each guest. . Miss Douglas (the president of the association) expressed the sincere regret which they all felt at the loss sustained by the school at Miss Barr’s departure, and she alluded to the cordial relations which had existed between Miss Barr Tirid the association. The old girls, said Miss Douglas, par ticularly appreciated the sympathetic interest and help which Miss Barr had given them in addition to her continual interest in the welfare of the present pupils. Miss Dinah Brown then presented Miss Barr with a pearl pendant and pearl brooch, Miss Barr feelingly thanking the old girls for the gift. The gathering then extended their good wishes to Miss Burrows, and she was presented with a pair of engraved silver serviette rings. Miss Andrews then presented Miss Barr and Miss Burrows with a badge of the Old Girls’ Association. During the evening items were given by Mrs. Wilkes, Miss E. Honnor, Miss D. Abbott, and Miss D. Bedford.
