ENTERTAINMENTS.

EVERYBODY’S.

WM. DESMOND IN “THE MINTS OF HELL.”

William Desmond, the pop.ilar big star who has been seen in some delightful comedy-dramas recently, has, in “The Mints of Hell,” his lafeat Hampton production, his first serious drama. “The Mints of Hell” is the name given to “bat gold”—gold that is black and soft and heavy—and flat, “like coins from the mints of hell.” It was in quest of this that Dan Burke went over the Lillimuit Divide, battled the terrific storm and treacherous snowdrifts, and would have died in the wilderness of ice had it not been for an old man and his beautiful daughter who rescued him. Desmond does splendid work in this production, which is notable for its graphically realistic Alaskan scenes and big dramatic action. The popular star looks and acts the part, and shows he’s handy wjth his fists in the rough-house fight with Hibbing. The bill includes gazette, interest, and travelog. ®

THE PEOPLE’S.

LAST NIGHT OF ALICE LAKI;

“The Misfit Wife,” a Metro production featuring Alice Lake, was seen last night at the People’s Theatre. It gripped the interest of the spectators from the start and held it throughout. But it was the performance of Alice Lake as Katie Malloy that counted most in the picture’s success. For Alice Lake, as the former laundress and manicurist, thrust by marriage into a coldly fashionable New York social atmosphere, played on the heartstrings of the audience with amazing virtuosity. The bill concludes to-night, and includes gazette, comedy, and Elmo No. 14.
