NORTH LEADS 1 THE SOUTH.
INCREASE AT PATEA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, April 27.
Some preliminary census returns are being issued by the Government Statistician. They relate chiefly to boroughs and town districts. These returns are not numerous enough to justify many deductions, but it is interesting to notice that the North Island appears to be growing much more rapidly than the South Island. The tehdency of population to move’northward, as shown in previous censuses, seems to have increased. The complete count of ie census papers is going to be a long business, although the department is assisted by some remarkable counting machines.
