MR. HUGHES’ MESSAGE. A PESSIMISTIC OUTLOOK. By Telegi'aph.—Pre?s Assn—Copyright. Melbourne. April 25. Mr. Hughes, addressing his constituents at Bendigo prior to his departure, urged the seriousness of the economic position in Australia. The bottom was falling out of tlje wool market, which was now selling below tl\p cost of production and, unless they could hold to their reserve prices, there was trouble ahead. Beef was also selling below the cost of production and, but for the fact that whewt had sold for high prices they would have had to face a crisis before this. The existing position was Such that no amount of statesmanship or legislation could do anything to save it. The one essential at such a time was a stable Government and looking the difficulties fairly in the face. Whatever could be done to prevent the collapse of the wool market the Government would do.
