PRICES J£OR FAT STOCK. HIGHER RATES IN AUCKLAND.
Auckland, April 2-1. The price of beef at the Westfield fat stock market yesterday showed a slight improvement on last weeks rates. Extra choice beef realised £2 for 1001 b, as against £1 18s a week ago. Choice find prime beef sold at from £1 12s to £1 18s per 1001 b, this being an advance of 2s in each instance. Ordinary and plain brought from £1 3s to .£1 10s, the latter quotation being a rise of Is per 1001 b on recent rates. Prime young cow beef was firm at last week’s prices, of £1 2s to £1 10s.
The price of sheep showed an’advance on late rates of from 2s to 3s a head. There were no extra heavy prime weth? ers penned, but heavy prime wethers brought from 19s to £1 2s fid, these prices equalling those realised for extra prime lots at the previous sale. Unfinished wethers sold at from 10s fid to 15s fid, the lowest price last week being 9s Gd, and the highest 13s. Extra heavy prime wes made from 16s 6d to 18s 9d, as compared with recent quotations of 14s to 16s. Heavy fat ewes sold at from 13s fid to 16s, as against 12s to 13s 6d last sale. Best lambs realised from 15s to 18s, and lighter from 12s to 15s, while unfinished brought from 5s to 10s. Competition for pigs was spirited, and values for all classes showed a slightly firmer tone. Choppers sold from £2 9s to £5 15s. Heavy baconers brought from £5 3s to £5 Ils; medium baconers, £4 12s fid to £5 Is; light, £4 5s fid to £4 10s; heavy porkers £3 2s fid to £3 15s; mediums, £2 7s fid to £2 17s Gd; light and unfinished, £1 6s to £2 ss; small slips, 10s to 15s.
