WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) April 23. The Waitara senior cadets held their annual social in the Clifton Hall on Thursday evening last. This annual function has lost none of its brightness or popularity, the hall being well filled. The interior of the hall was well decorated and thanks, are due to Sergt.Major Bell for his work, which was highly commented upon by those present. There were 80 couples dancing to good music supplied by Messrs Feeks’ orchestra. During the evening songs were sung by Misses Myrtle Langman and S. Bullol and Mr. W. Fox, the accompaniments being played by Mr. Firkin. Quartennaster-Sergt. Telfar and Sergeant Hull filled the bill as efficient M.C.’s. The supper was provided by the cadets, and the arrangements were in the capable hands of Mesdames W Telfar, W Sampson, W. Procter, and Kempsell. The takings totalled something over £l5. and after paying exthaja will be about £7 to
hand over to the Soldiers’ and Civilians’ Club.
Air. F. G. McDavitt, who has been a most courteous official of the local post office for the last eleven years (excepting the period at the war), has received notice of transfer to New Plymouth. He has been popular with everybody and will be missed from athletic circles. Mr. A. S. McGregor, of the accountants’ branch of the G.P.0., Wellington, is expected to arrive here on Monday night.
