WHITE y- LEYLAND IMPORTANT TRUCK TRIAL. JT having been asserted that the Leyland truck consumed much less benzine and lubricating oil than the White, the Rahotu Co-operative Dairy Co. instituted a test for benzine and oil consumption on March 23, 1921, between the above makee of trucks from their factory to the cool stores at Moturoa, a distance of 31 miles. The test was conducted by the Rahotu Company’s Chairman, two directors, and the factory manager. Mr. C. L. Wilson, the head agent for the Leyland, and hie two experts, handled their truck, and the experts of Newton King, Ltd., looked after the interests of the White truck. The models used were the Leyland 4ton and the White 3|-ton, and the loads in each instance were 60 crates of cheese of approximately 5 tons. The factory manager supervised the emptying of the oil and benzine tanks, and measured a definite quantity back into the tanks, and measured up again after the trip. A- director rode on each truck as supervisor. The official result of the test was that in the 31 miles, the White used three quarts less benzine and one pint less oil than the Leyland, the White’s consumption being 18 quarts benzine, and the Leyland’s consumption being 21 quarts benzine. The result of this test is that the saving on the trip from the factory to New Plymouth and return to Rahotu is approximately 8s per trip in favor of the White, in spite of the fact that the latter carried a heavier overload than the Levland. J Summed up, the net result is that the White beat the Leyland: FIRST.—ON BENZINE CONSUMPTION* SECOND.—ON OIL CONSUMPTION. THIRD.—LOADING CAPACITY. NEWTON KING. LTD..
