Mr. W. M. Hughes, Australian Prime Minister, is sailing for England by the 'Orvieto on April 29.

A London cablegram reports the death of Captain Alexander Simpson, formerly a skipper in the Aberdeen line.

Mr, Arthur Morton, president of the National Dairy Association, who has been on a visit to Wellington, returned by the mail train last night.

Commandant Middlemis, of the New Plymouth Salvation Army, has arrived in Melbourne, and writes to say that he is leaving there on his return journey on May 2, and is due back in New Plymouth on Wednesday, May 11.

The funeral of the late Mr. H. A. Coward, who died as a result of injuries received in a motor collision at Stratford on Tuesday night, took place at the Kopuatama Cemetery yesterday. The cortege was exceptionally long, friends of the deceased from all parts of Taranaki being present, and over 100 wreaths were received. The pallbearers were Messrs. G. Hall, W. Hall, C. R. Finnerty, W. R. Foley, J. H. Thompson and Brown. The service at Holy Trinity Church and at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. C. W. Howard.

Writing from London on March 9 a correspondent says: Sir Joseph and Lady Ward have made definite arrangemnts to leave for the South of France at the beginning of next week. They will fixst go to Nice, thence to Cannes, and so on to St. Remo, on the Italian Riviera. While in Italy they will also visit Rome, Florene.6, and Milan, and Sir Joseph is to meet Senator Marconi. After leaving Italy, Sir Joseph and Lady Ward intend to go on to Belgium and to the recently occupied towns of Germany—Dusseldorf, Duisburg, and Ruhrort. They will also spend a little time in Berlin, and probably return to* England by way of Holland. They expect to spend six weeks in making the tour.
