“A PURE ADVENTURESS”
FALSE CLAIM TO A TITLE. Dublin, Feb. 18. A woman who last Wednesday was charged in Dublin with obtaining wearing apparel from two houses in the city by false pretences described herself as “Lady Doreen Browne, daughter of the Marquess of Sligo.” She was brought up again to-day, and Detective-sergeant Byrne described her as a pure adventuress. He said she was a native of Glasgow and had been in America as a chorus girl. Telegrams had been received from London stating that she had no connection with the family of Lord Sligo, and the sergeant added that she was “wanted” by the London police, who had circulated her photograph in the Police Gazette.
Mr. Philip O’Reilly, who appeared for the prisoner expressed her regret for having used the names of Lady Doreen Browne and Lady Mulholland. He said that Lord Sligo’s solicitor had seen the prisoner in Mountjoy Gaol, and said that she was not the person that she represented herself to be. Another remand was granted.
