FIRE ON A STEAMER.

OUTBREAK ON THE MARAMA. By Telegraph Pre*,* Association Wellington, Last Night. On the last voyage of the Marama from Wellington to San Francisco, on March 17, a fire broke out in the fanroom of the engine-room department. A big volume of smoke occasioned alarm among the passengers, but the ship’s hose extinguished all traces of the nre in fifteen minutes. The only damage was to two fans which were put out of action. In 24 hours one was patched up, and both were repaired at San Francisco. The cause is attributed to coal dust through the back draught of the fans becoming ignited and setting fire to the oil around the fires.
