FIRE AT PALMERSTON.

OUTBREAK IN TEA ROOMS.' OCCUPANTS’ NARROW ESCAPE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. A disastrous fire occurred here tonight in the Piccadilly Tea Rooms, over Hallenstein’s Buildings, in the Square. The proprietor (J. W. Heard), his wife and son, who lived on the premises, had a narrow escape, jumping from upstairs windows. The firemen had trying experiences, several being overcome by the smoke. Hallenstein’s also suffered considerable damage, principally by water.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a candle left in the bathroom.
