ON BRITISH LINKS.
J. H. KIRKWOOD’S PROSPECTS OF SUCCESS. . London, April 19. Kirkwood and East, the Australian golfers, have arrived, and are very fit. Inteviewed by the Australian Press, Kirkwood said he was eager to commence serious play immediately, and was therefore going to Bexhill to-nigh( to attempt to enter for to-morrow’s competition. Anyhow, the trip would provide him with an opportunity of estimating the strength of the leading players and the characteristics of the links. After his visit to Bexhill he proposed to go to Saint Andrew’s immediately to obtain early practice, and to southwards before playing at Oxley. His experience in America had renewed his hope, because he. felt he could hold his own there easily. He had several times beaten Hagen. Kirkwood paid a warm tribute to the hospitality of the Americans and their beautiful links. Though he expected to meet a higher standard of players in Britain he was more hopeful than when he left Australia. While America had lengthened his drive slightly, he did not anticipate much difficulty in adapting himself to British links and conditions.
