New York, April 19. An American representative will probably take part in the Porta Rosa conference to consider measures for Austrian relief. BRITISH SHIPBUILDING. London, April 19. Lloyd’s shipbuilding figures show a continuance of the slump. The tonnage launched during the. last quarter declined by 140,000 compared with the previous quarter, and the tonnage begun is 118,000 less. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. IMPORTS OF STEEL BARS. London, April 19. Mr. Lewis Jones, secretary of the South Wales Steel Association, states that on the first three months of this year 27.000 tons of steel bars were imported into Britain. Labor accounted for 95 per cent, of the cost of finished steel and 90 per cent, in the case of spelter. Tin platers’ wages in South Wales have been reduced 40 per cent, under a sliding scale based on prices.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
