EX-KAISERIN’S FUNERAL.
GERMANY’S LAST TRIBUTE. AN IMPOSING CEREMONY*. Bj Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received April 20, 7.50 p.m. Berlin, April 19. A party of officers, with lowered swords, awaited the arrival of the exKsiserin’s remains at Wild Park Station, near Potsdam. The coffin was completely covered by wreaths presented at the stations en route. An all-night vigil over the remains was kept by officers of the regiments of which the ex-Kaiserin was honorary colonel. A great procession, ineluding uniformed officers and privates, followed the cortege on its final journey to Potsdam where enormous crowds of visitors gathered to pay their last tribute to the deceased Empress. Martial mourning was a leading feature of the funeral of the ex-Kaiserin at Potsdam. It recalled the pre-war glories of the German Empire. The pallbearers were four Knights of the Order of the Black Eagle. The ex-Crown Princess, her sons and other family mourners were present; also General Falkenhayn, Marshals Hindenburg and Mackensen, Admirals Mueller and von Scheer, politicians, public men, clergy and officers in full uniform and shining helmets all followed the coffin. The huge crowd needed 5000 security police to keep it in order. After the service in the Antik Tempel in the Parc Sans fiouci the coffin was lowered into the grave next to the body of Prince Joaahim, who committed suicide recently.
