WELL WORTH NOTING.
The great interest that is being taken in the question of supplying electrical power throughout Taranaki has caused much discussion which has demonstrated how urgently this boon is needed. There exists a natural desire to obtain electric current as cheaply as possible, but a phase of the question that should have stirred the settlers as much, if not more, as any other is what they would save by 'having electricity at their service. An interesting light on that matter may be obtained from the Wairarapa, where it is estimated that the saving to the community, by the installation of hydro-electricity will be £50,000 a year. This estimate may be on the liberal side, or it may prove to be under the mark, but there can be no question that it should operate as a potent factor in giving courage to those who are contemplating expenditure necessary to provide electric current and its reticulation. Experience has shown that although the provision of electrical current involves a large outlay of capital, that outlay is fully justified, and the fact that it not only provides an essential commodity, but also effects large savings, should go a long way towards eliminating all minor differences and lead to concentrating on a comprehensive scheme. It is worth while noting well the matter of what can be saved, a point that all too frequently escapes the attention it deserves.
