MOTOR FATALITY.

STRATFORD RESIDENT KILLED. CAR COLLIDES WITH CAR'’’ (From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. ( A serious accident occurred in Strat«| ford shortly before seven o’clock thia evening, as a result of which Mr. H. A. I Coward, a well-known Stratford resident,died in the hospital from injuries Mr. Coward, who was land salesman for the firm of Lynskey and Evans, was I returning by motor car from a business i visit to Manaia with Mr. R. D. Wilson, 1 of Stratford, and a few chains south of the junction of Mountain Road and Opunake Road the car collided with a horse and cart driven by Mr. R. Death, of Bird Road. It is stated that one of the shafts of the cart penetrated Mr. Coward’s chest, making a serious wound. Mr. Wilson and Mr. Death escaped Mr. Coward was removed to the Stratford Hospital, but died at 9.30 p.m. The motor car and cart were very bswily ; damaged. The late Mr. Coward, who was about: 36 years old, was born in Gosport, near. Portsmouth, England, and on coming to New Zealand commenced business as a road contractor in the Eltham district. He afterwards joined the reading staff of the Public Works Department at Te Kuiti, and assisted in constructing many of the roads in that district. During recent years he was Stratford salesman for Lynskey and Evans. He leaves a widow and two young children.
