MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

NEW PLYMOUTH NOMINATIONS. MAYOR NOT OPPOSED Nominations closed at noon yesterday ■for vacancies for the Mayoralty, Borough Council, Hospital Board, and Harbor Board, and all seats are being contested with the exception of the Mayoralty, Mr. F. E. Wilson being re-elect-ed unopposed. There are eleven aspirants for the eight seats on the Borough Council, the following having been nominated: Messrs. T. N. Blackhall, J. Brown, E. Dingle, W. H. Fitzpatrick, H. V. Griffiths, G. T. Langley, R. A. Large, J. Kibby, R. D. Parkin, W. Rumball, G. T. Scott. Messrs. Griffiths, Parkin and Kibby (sitting councillors) and Blackhall, Brown, Dingle, Large and Rumball are the candidates to be officially supported by the ratepayers’ associations, while Messrs. Fitzpatrick, Langley and Scott are the nominees of the Labor Party. Mr. A. R. Davis, who was among those originally selected as candidates on behalf of the ratepayers, was not nominated, as his name was not on the electoral roll, and Mr. E. Dingle was chosen for the vacancy. The sitting members on the Hospital Board (Messrs. M. Fraser, E. C. R. Gilmour, and J. S. S. Medley) will be opposed by Messrs. J. Brown and H. R. Cattiey. For the two seats on the New Plymouth Harbor Board the sitting mem* bers (Messrs. C, E. Bellringer and J. S. Connett) were nominated, and also Mr J. O. Taylor, so that an election will be necessary in this case. IN OTHER CENTRES. At Palmerston North, Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., the present Mayor, and Councillor E. 11. Crabb have been nominated for the Mayoralty. Sixteen nominations were received for the nine seats on the council. Mr. E. A. Goodger has been re-elect-ed Mayor of Waipukurau, unopposed. DEPUTY RETURNING OFFICERS. NO LEAVE FOR CIVIL SERVANTS. By Telegraph.— Ptefio Agsociatioa. Wellington, Last Night. It is announced that the Public Service Commissioher will not allow leave to civil servants to assist deputy returning officers at the local elections which take place next week. Such leave has been granted in the. past, but the Commissioner does not believe that the principle of allowing civil servants to assist is a sound one, particularly at a time when there is a certain amount of unemployment.
