TARANAKI RUGBY UNION. THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union was held last night. Present: Messrs. Jas. McLeod (chairman), A. Neilson, D. George, L. G. Beamish, W. B. Fearon, A. R. Ryder, R. F. Harkness, Jas. Garcia, D. J. Malone, and G. ®. Jago (hon. secretary). A letter was' received from the New Zealand Rugby Union asking that in view of the expenses attached to the forthcoming visit of the South African team, the amount due” on mortgage should be paid off or reduced. —It was resolved to bring the matter before the notice of the Pukekura Sports Ground Committee. It was also decided to ask clubs to forward their requirements in rule books, which would be published immediatelx after the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union. The question of uniforms came forward, members stressing the point tha-t referees skcnld enforce the rule compelling players to play in their correct colors.—lt was re- . solved that clubs be notified that they are expected to take the field, not only in uniform jerseys, but also in uniform pants and 'Stockings. Mr. D. J. Malone was appointed sole selector of the representative team.
It was resolved to vote £lO 10s to the funds of the Taranaki Provincial Saturday Half-hololday Association.
It was also resolved to vote £lO 10s to the Taranaki Referees’ Association.
The Northern Referees’ Association Submitted the names of the following referees: —W. Rock, B. Petty, O. West, J. Johnson, F. Roberts, D. Johnson, F. Julian, H. Walls, J. H. Thompson,, J. Scoon, F. Hooker, A. McLean, T. Clare, T. Wilson, J. O’Grady, W. Inch, M. J. Voila ire, A. Page, R. C. Larsen, F. Webb, Papps, J. O'Shea, E. Andrews, D. L. Goodaere. —Approved. Clubs are to be instructed to pad all goal posts for the opening of the season. At the last meeting of the Rugby Union, as the result of a conference between delegates from the northern and southern committees, a resolution was passed favoring the setting up of an appointment board, consisting of two delegates for each division, to make appointments of referees for senior matches. The northern association made the condition that delegates must be members’ of the Referees’ Association, must not hold any office in connection with the clubs, and must not be members of the Taranaki. Rugby Union. The southern division decided to adhere to the resolution, and there appeared the possibility of a deadlock. At last ♦night's meeting the matter was again discussed. Members of the union considered that it was not advisable to have active officials of clubs on the appointment board, and It was decided to recommend the southern cxnmittee to agree to the clause.
