PRICE OF BUTTER.
NOT TO BE ALTERED. PRODUCERS RECEIVE LESS. By Telegraph.—Preas Association. Auckland, April 18. The dairy companies have reduced the* eelling price of their butter by a penny per pound, says Mr. Nos worthy, Minister of Agriculture. The price to the consumer will remain unaltered, this being brought about by a Government subsidy of 2d per lb, instead of 3d as was the case from April 1, and 6d paid from October last until the end of March. Provision will also be made later on to assist toward storage and interest chargee upon butter which is held in store for the purpose of ensuring supplies during the later winter months. When considering the price to be charged for whiter butter the dairy factories first asked a net price of 2s 4Jd; later they reduced this to 2s 2Jd, and finally have agreed to a further reduction to 28 IJd.
Records have been kept of the amount, of butter produced of late and all the evidence available goes to show that the butter made since April 1, and to be made during the remainder of the autumn and early winter, will be sufficient to meet requirements without anybeing available for export, which is prohibited save with the prior consent of the Minister of Customs.
