FEDERAL CRISIS.
REGARDED AS HALF OVER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Melbourne, April 16. In the House of Representatives, Mr. Hughes’ adjournment motion was carried by 49 votes to 19. The crisis is regarded as half over. The Ministry is not yet satisfied, and it is anticipated that adequate balm will be forthcoming before Parliament re-assembles on Wednesday. Received April 17, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, April 17. The Federal Ministerial crisis is causing much comment in view of the extreme view Mr. Hughes takes of the Country Party’s action in taking the business out of the hands of the Government, notwithstanding a repeated assurance that this was quite unintentional, as evidenced by the party subsequently voting in a body for Mr. Hughes’ motion. The general view is that Mr. Hughes will find a way out, not only to remain in office and attend the Imperial Conference, but to exploit the incident and strengthen his position so far as the Country Party is concerned.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable. Received April 18, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, April 17. The Governor-General returned to Melbourne to-day in view of possible Federal developments.
