GREAT PERSONAGES.
THUMB-NAIL SKETCHES. London, Feb. 10. Lord Riddell, when the guest of the Rotary Club of London, talked of “Great Personages in the European Drama., Here are a few of his impressions o the men who early in 1919 dominated the world: M. Clemenceau: Radiated energy and possesses the most wonderful eyes, which appeared to be in perpetual internal motion. Was cynical about evervthing but his own country. During the Peace Conference Lord Riddell nad seen the wonderful old man, with one arm round the neck of Mr. Lloyd George and the other linked in the .arm of President Wilson, talking to them like a grandfather to two boys. Mr Lloyd George: People often asked how ho kept so well; the secret was simple. The Prime Minister was a very virile and optimistic person. He had a type of mind which enabled him. even in the most stormy times, to divert himself with a book, and he was gifted with a wonderful power of sleep. President Wilson: Very much I'k.e the late Mr. Joseph Chamberlain in appearance. 'Liko that statesman, was extremely smart above the table, but his trousers and boots were not equally smart. Marked by many of the characteristics of the politician, the professor, and the dissenting minister. M. Venizelos: Had a soft and silky voice and manner, but possessed a powerful set of teeth which gave one the impression that his bite was worse than his bark.
