LESS WAGES.
REDUCTIONS IN ENGLAND. MANY TRADES AFFECTED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received April 15, 12.5 a.m. London, April 14. Widespread proposals to reduce wages to meet post-war conditions include the reduction of engineering and shipbuilding employees’ weekly rates by six shillings, and the abolition of the 124 per cent, bonus and the piece workers’ 15 per cent, bonus; the abolition of the 7J per cent, bonus in the Midland nut and bolt trade; five to ten shillings a week in the case of electrical workers; 25 per cent, in the case of vehicle workers; threepence hourly for chemical workers; twopence in the Leicester hosiery trade; ten to fifteen shillings, in the Aberdeen hosiery trade; fifteen shillings in Scottish packing case makers; 18s 9d in Manchester waterproofers; 174 per cent, in Glasgow rubber workers and important textile trades. The agreement empires in May, when the reductions will be proposed.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
