The Frankfurter Zeitung urges Herr von Simons, despite junkers and the Stinnes* Press outcries, to formulate new conciliatory proposals.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
Received April 14, 10.50 p.m. Paris, April 13.
All the speakers in the Chamber in the discussion on the Bill providing a fifty per cent tax on German exports criticised the measure on the ground that either French business men would have to pay the tax, or if they refused to buy German goods they would be obliged to purchase the goods they needed from other countries, whose rate of exchange was against France, for instance, England, which would profit greatly. Speakers added that while they intended to vote for the measure as a question of sanctions they hoped the imposition would not be necessary, in view of the measures to be taken on May 1. —Aus.-N.Z.
