The rules of golf committee has notified alterations operating from May 1 standardising the ball of a maximum weight of 1.62 ounces and a minimum diameter of 1.62 inches, reducing the lost ball penalty, and increasing the out of bounds penalty. The committee announces that ribbed irons may be barred in the near future after the open and amateur championships have been decided.
