In the Assembly, replying to a Labor motion advocating a State fleet to carry on the whole trade of the South African Union, the Minister of Railways said such a monopoly would require at least four lines of steamers to give even the equivalent of the present services and would cost £10,000.000., If the State had a shipping monopoly freights would be trebled.—Aus.-N.Z.
