It was unanimously resolved at the annual meeting of the Masterton Farmers’ Union, on the motion of Sir Walter Buchanan, M.L.C., seconded by Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., to enter a strong protest again«t the decision of the producers’ conference in Wellington to make a fifteen months’ freight contract at rates offered by the companies The protest trusted no contract would be signed by the producers’ committee unless the rates were reduced in proportion to the fall in coal and other shipowners’ expenses.
