OTIRA AT AUCKLAND. The Skaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Otira arrived at Auckland from St. John via ports on Saturday afternoon, and anchored in the stream. She left St. John on February 22, and after replenishing bunkers at Norfolk proceeded to Matanzas (Cuba), where she loaded 3000 tons of sugar for Sydney. She left Panama on March 17 and took a northerly route across the Pacific, passing through the Taumotu Archipelago. Fine weather was experienced until about four days from Auckland, when very heavy weather was met, reducing the vessel’s speed considerably. The Otira has about 3000 tons of cargo for the Dominion, 300 tons of which are for Auckland. Captain J. H. Gaskell, R.N.R., is in command. From Auckland the Otira will proceed to Wellington, thence to Dunedin, Melbourne and Sydney. TASMANIA AT AUCKLAND. The Tasmania arrived at Auckland from Liverpool on Sunday and anchored in the powder ground. She left Liverpool' on February 30, and arrived at Newport News on March 6, resuming her voyage two days later. She cleared the Canal on March 16, and met fine weather until last Wednesday, when very heavy Weather was experienced. The Tasmania was built in Germany in 1913 and on the outbreak cf war was laid up at Antwerp, where she remained until the signing of peace. She was then taken over by r the Imperial Govenument, and after running several trips for the Government, she was purchased by the New Zealand Shipping Company. She is a fine type of cargo steamer, but is not insulated. There are seven hatches. The Tasmania is a single screw steamer of 7514 tons register. She brought about 2750 tons of cargo for Auckland, including five tons of explosives. Captain Coxhand is in command. The Tasmania will proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin on discharge of her Auckland cargo. RAMA HITS AN OBSTACLE. The necessity for a complete and up-to-date chart of the Chatham Islands is emphasised by the fact that, the Chatham Islands Fishing Company’s steamier Rama struck an uncharted object, probably a pinnacle rock or the mast of a wrecked vessel Ln 20 fathoms of water about a mile and a half off land at the Chathams, on a recent trip there. No damage was done to the vessel. An inquiry was held, and the master and officers of the steamer were completely exonerated. It is stated that no official chart of the Cfcathams has been made during the past forty years. BIG COMMONWEALTH LINER. The first of the five big Coimmonwealth liners now under construction to take 'the water will be the Moreton Bay, which is nearing completion in the hands, of Messrs. Vickers, at Barrow-in-Furness. This 22,500tonner will be launched on April 23, if all goes well. She was originally premised for delivery in January, but the joiners’ strike and other troubles precluded this. Mr. H. G. Larkin, manager of the Commonwealth Line, has been assured by Messrs. Vickers that the internal fittings of the vessel have reached "uch a stage that there will be little difficulty about delivering her by August. It is hoped that the other vessel, being constructed at tiie same yards, and the three remaining 22,500 ton liners, which are being built at Messrs. W. Beardmore’s yards on the Clyde, will follow in quick succession, and will all be in the hands of the Commonwealth by the beginning of next year. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. ARRIVED.
