CARRYING FIREARMS. By Telegraph.—Press Assoclatloa. Auckland, April 12. Claude Osmond Barker, who figured in the Easter alleged swindle case yesterday, was to-day fined £5O and costs, with the alternative of three months’ imprisonment, for having in his possession a firearm without a lawful purpose, a loaded revolver. Mr. Poynton, S.M., said that the carrying of firearms was a grave menace to the community. ALLEGED FORGERY. Auckland, April 12. At the Police Court, Robert Harvey Campbell admitted a charge of forgery and uttering a cheque for £284 16s. Accused worked in the office of F. and W. Fowler, plumbers. He opened an account at the Bank of New South Wales under an assumed name and paid in a cheque signed F. and W. Fowler. He bought a cheque book and presented a cheque for the withdrawal of £lBO. Delay in getting the cheque certified alarmed Campbell, who disappeared. Inquiries showed Fowler’s cheque was a forgery. Accused was allowed bail in £lOO.
