PERSONAL.

Mr. R. Lowe, of Wellington, who has been appointed conductor of the New Plymouth Citizens’ Band, arrived in New Plymouth last night, and will take up his duties immediately.

Major Charles Dunk, a prominent figure in Palmerston North for many years, died on Monday at the age of 72. About three weeks ago he underwent an operation, from which it was hoped he was recovering, when he had a relapse.

Miss Ivy M. Johnson, senior sister on the staff of the Stratford Hospital, forwarded her resignation to yesterday’s meeting of the Hospital Board, stating that she was leaving for America shortly for further professional studies. The chairman (Mr. C. D. Sole) stated that Miss Johnson was one of the most capable women the board had ever had at the hospital, and she was now leaving to enter a large institution in New York for the purpose of further qualifying herself as a nurse. During the absence of the matron on holiday, Miss Johnson had been acting matron. It was resolved that the resignation be accepted with regret, and that the board forward her a testimonial’and a bonus.
