ANZAC DAY.

COMMEMORATION SERVICE. NEW PLYMOUTH ARRANGEMENTS Anzac Day—Monday, April 25 —will, under the Act of last year, be a public holiday. In the public memorial service to be held in New Plymouth all military and patriotic organisations will participate, and final arrangements are now being completed by the Returned Soldiers’ Association, in conjunction with the Defence Department and the Borough Council.

The gathering will take the form of a parade, which will leave the Post Office at 10.30 a.m. for the Recreation Grounds, via Devon and Liardet Streets, and will march past a saluting base on the sports enclosure, afterwards forming up into a hollow square, as adopted at military functions. A portion of the square will be reserved for the relatives of deceased soldiers and representatives of all local bodies.

A religious service, lasting about twenty minutes, will be held, each of the various denominations being represented by the respective clergy, and a twominutes silence wil) afterwards be observed. Following this will be the playing of the National Anthem and the firing party of 100 returned soldiers will fire three volleys. After the “Last Poet” is sounded the bands will play the “Garland of Flowers”, and it is requested that during this item the public remain with heads uncovered, as a riiark of respect to the memory of the fallen soldiers. This practically concludes the ceremony, and the parade will march off the ground and break up. The order of the parade will be as follows: Citizens’ Band, firing party of 100 returned men, returned soldiers, nursing sisters, V.A.D.’s, Red Cross, Women’s National Reserve, South African Association, * New Plymouth Patriotic Society, Repatriation Committee, Taranaki veterans, Salvation Army Band, Territorial regiment, old volunteers, Senior Cadets, High School Cadets, Legion of Frontiersmen, Rifle ’Clubs, Boy Scouts. All Officers and men and nursing sisters' are asked to parade in uniform, With their medals and decorations.

The parade ’ will be in the charge of Captain A. M. McDiarmid (president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association), and Lieut. L W. Andrew, V.C., will command the firing party. Staff SergeantMajor Bell and Sergeant-Major Roper will act as marshall. * ■
