CLARKE MEMORIAL FUND.

DRAMATIC ENTERTAINMENT. A company of New Plymouth amateur players who in the past achieved no mean measure of success in the presentation of dramatic works, are at present engaged in the preparation of two works which they propose to produce ait the Workers’ Social Hall for a season of three nights commencing on May 4. The plays are W. W. Jacobs’ “The Monkey’s Paw” and “Poached Eggs and Pearls,” by Gertrude Jennings. Both ran for very Iqjig seasons in London recently, being of engrossing Interest. The first affords scope for some highly dramatic effects culminating in a somewhat tragic ending. The players in this are Mrs. C. H. Weston, Messrs. Basil Hartman, W. Goldsworthy, K. Kirk and D. Morgan, and the parts are well placed. In the Gertrude Jennings’ number comedy reigns supreme, and as presented will afford a highly entertaining part of the programme. Mrs. Weston Mrs. D. K. Morrison, Mrs. Rex. Brewster, Miss Home and Miss Bedford, Messrs A. McTsaacs, L. Etherington and B. Hartman form the cast for this play. Orchestral music will add to the attractiveness of the productions, while special scenery has been prepared to make the setting as complete as possible. The proceeds of the season will go to the Clarke Memorial Hostel Fund.
