INGLEWOOD.

BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The regular monthly meeting of the Inglewood Borough Council was held on Wednesday, 6th inst., when there were present: Messrs. J. Sutherland (Mayor), K. Fawcett, J. Frewin, A. B. Gamlin, 1. Gibbs, T. L. Parkin, and F. Spurdie. Keports of the electric .light, reserves and works committees were submitted and adopted. It was resolved to contribute, as asked, to the cost of the inspector of the new health district. The Mayor was appointed to represent the council at the Stratford conference of the Taranaki Hydro-electric League. The question of joining the Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association was left for the new council to deal with. The usual honorarium of £5O was voted to the Mayor for his services for the past year. The Mayor drew the council’s attention to the fact that this was the last meeting for the year. He cordially thanked the members “jointly and severally” for the support they had given him, and. congratulated the council on having carried through the year’s work without any discord, a state of affairs that must be to the benefit of the ratepayers of the borough. Or. Fawcett He was confident he voiced the feelings of all the members in saying that they were well pleased to have served the burgesses of Inglewood to the best of their ability, always under the guidance of 1 ' their elected leader the Mayor. . On the motion of councillor Fawcett, seconded by 'Cr. Parkin, a vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. Henry Brown, who had done so much for Inglewood in its early struggling days, was passed in the usual manner, the members standing. - GENERAL. Here, as elsewhere, the heavy rain of Wednesday night and Thursday was very acceptable, and its welcome has been enhanced by the clear, calm warmth of to-day (Friday). It so often happens in this wonderful Taranaki climate, when a spell of hot dry weather is broken by such a stoijin, the break is followed by a cold devastating south-easter, and, accompanying the gratitude one feels for the rain, there is a lurking dread and doubt as to how the weather will develop. This fact no doubt accounts for the common comment by farmers: “Just the weather that’s wanted if it doesn’t blow cold afterwards.” And this time it hasn’t. Though not much is- heard about it in Inglewood itself, probably the one thing for which this centre is best known in other parts of the Dominion is its bacon, and it is pleasant to be able to record that so far this season the Inglewood Co-operative Bacon Curing Company has done well. Considerably more pigs have been.dealt with than during the season 19A9-20. No hitch has occurred. All the bacon made has found a ready and satisfactory market,, and suppliers have received prompt returns. What better could be hoped for in these captious times, The company claims to be the only really successful bona fide co-oper-ative bacon company in the Dominion. Its produce has always held its own, wherever exhibited, and from its start it has never looked back. On the other hand, it has gone, and kept, |o work quietly, without any fanfare of trumpets or banging of drums, and, as above stated, in Inglewood itself a stranger would hardly hear of its existence. One improvements however, could be made, and that riot by the company but by the community: that would be. by according the concern more hearty support, making it, even more than it is at present, the property of all the settlers within its reach, i.e., t>v forming shareholders first, and then supplying as much as each can of the best quality he can produce; in short, by real cooperation conscientiously carried, out. It would pay!
