Orders for papers may also be left with them. THE HALF-HOLIDAY. Messrs. Lightband, Lewers, Huston, A. Rawles, B. Rawles, Manoy, Mclnnes, Witt, Wann and Rimmington, representing the Stratford Thursday HalfHoliday Association, visited Eltham on , Friday night and addressed a meeting under the auspices of the Eltham Thursday Half-Holiday Association. About sixty persons were present and the Stratford delegates explained their views on the half-holiday position in Stratford, many of the statements made by the Stratford Saturday supporters. STRATFORD GUN CLUB. The members of. the Stratford Gun Club held a successful shoot on Mr. A. E. Brown’s property, Mahoe, on Friday afternoon with the object of encouraging the sport in that district. Mr. H. Campbell carried out the duties of referee and explained the rules to the
novices. The weather was satisfactory and an interesting time was spent. In the opening shoot, eleven competing, A. E. Brown (18yds), G. Hurrell (12yds), and F. Casey (18yds) broke the total (6) and divided the stake. Two novice shoots were held, six competing on each occasion, all off eight yards. First sweep: C. Godard 5, E. Perrett 4, A. L. Hooper 3, J. McKenzie 3, N. Sattler 2, B. May 1. Second Sweep: May 6 (first barrels), Hooper 5, Goddard 4, Sattler 3, Perrett 2, McKenzie 2. The second open sweep was divided by E. Colson (Wyds) and S. D. Coleman (18yds) breaking the possible (6), the former registering all first barrels. F. Whittle (20yds), A. E. Brown (19yds) and G. Hurrell (13yds) broke five each. Nine co\npeted. CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. A meeting of the executive of the club was held last night to draw up the programmes for the two-day shoot on May 24 and 25, as fixed by the New Zealand Gun Clubs’ Association. This year, for the first time in the history of the Association, the championships will be held within a few days of each other. The live bird championship will be shot at Wanganui on Friday, May 20, with an open handicap (£110) on ’the Wednesday. Stratford follows on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the next week with an open £lOO clay handicap and the clay championship, while the sparrow championship at Napier follows in a few days. The executive last night drew up the
programmes for approval by the Association, and these will be issued shortly to members of the club and shooters throughout the Dominion. A large gathering of the crack sho-s is expected. The A. and P. Showgrounds has been secured for the meeting. This will be the first occasion of fl championship being decided at Stratford,, and it is a compliment to the clul as a “live wire” in the Association. GENERAL. The annual meeting of the Stratforc Plunket Society will be held in the Bor ough Council chambers on Tuesday af ternoon at 3 o’clock. A concert and dance will be held ai Pukengahu on Wednesday evening wher a presentation will be made to Miss G Coleman.
