Official: 'Hie triple alliance of labor lias decided to strike. Mr. J. H. Thomas. M.P. (general secretary of the National Union of Railwaymen) .announces that railwaymen and transport workers will strike at midnight on Tuesday, failing the reopening of negotiations. At the close of the railwaymen and Transporters’ conference Mr. Thomas itsued a statement as follows: “Thia is the decision: That the joint meeting of the executives has given notice to the employers and the Government that unless negotiations are re-opened between the Miners’ Federation and the mine owners or the Government the full strength of the strike power of the triple alliance shall be put into operation as from Tuesday next at midnight.” In a supplement to the London Gazette a series of proclamations are published calling up soldiers and sailors and members of the Air Force for service, including those entitled to be transferred to the reserve. The Army reserve numbers 6200, the <Air Force 5000, and the naval force 36,000. None will be employed aa strike breakers. Airships will supplement motor lodges hurrying foodstuffs to inland towns, and Aeroplanes will become mail carriers. •Mr. Thomas addressing railwaymen ht Paddington, said it was the duty of Everyone to still apply themselves to End an honorable solution of the probtm.
