BIG STRIKE THREAT
TRIPLE ALLIANCE JOINS IN
DEMANDS MORE NEGOTIATIONS PREMIER ARRANGES MEETING The triple alliance of labor—the miners, the railwaymen and the transport workers—decided to strike at midnight to-morrow unless negotiations were re-opened with the minersAll the cables received last night indicated a crisis of the gravest magnitude, but a message received early this morning states that negotiations will be resumed to-day, thus posiponipg action by the triple alliance. The decision affects two million workers, who have not been consulted by ballot or otherwise, and already one section of railwaymen has denounced the strike, saying the whole thing is Bolshevik. A general stoppage by the workers affiliated to the triple alliance will completely paralyse the industry and normal life of Britain. Proclamations have been issued calling up soldiers, sailors and members of'the Air Force for service. The Government proposes to call for volunteers to maintain the national services, and adequate protection will be given. Mr. Lloyd George has appealed to patriotic citizens to enrol as volunteers. Airships and lorries will carry food to inland towns, and aeroplanes will carry mails.
