MELBOURNE HIDE SALES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. _Received April 8, 8.15 p.m. Melbourne, April 8. At the hides sales the catalogue was well filled. Heavies and mediums declined a penny and a half-penny respectively and stouts and kips were unaltered.

LONDON METAL MARKETS.

Received April 9, 1.30 a.m. London, April 7. Copper.— £O9 2s fid and £OB 17fe fid; electrolytic, £72 10s and £73 10s. Lead.— £2O 5s and £2O 12s fid. Spelter.— £25 and £2O 10s. Tin.—£lsB 12s Gd and £l6l 15s. Silver.—l3%d per ounce.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 6th inst:— Wool.—There was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home and Continental buyers being restricted. The opening .catalogues were representative. Market very irregular. Merino 10 to 20 per cent and crossbred, neglected, 5 to 10 per cent lower.

Cheese.—Colored, good demand, £8 per cwt. White, market weaker, £7 Is per cwt. Tallow.—We quote present spot values for the following descriptions: Fine mutton, £1 18s per cwt: good beef, £1 14s fid per cwt; mixed,'£l 7s per cwt. Large stocks, small demand.

INGLEWOOD SALE.

Newton King, Ltd.’s Inglewood sale on Wednesday was well attended, and there was a very fair muster of stock. Taken all in all the tone of the market was slightly firmer, though it is apparent that owners of good quality stock are holding back for a revival in prices generally Fat lambs made 12s 7d, a line of small ewe lambs 7s fid, mixed store lambs 10s, culls 4s 7d, 4-tooth wethers realised 14s 7d, store/ ewes up to 10s Bd, ewes (in lamb) Ifls Id, indifferent jnixed calves sold fo/ fjom 5s to 7s fid, weaner heifers 15s, Jersey do £3 ss, 20-jnonth steers 40s, 2%-year steers 51s, low conditioned store cows from 21s to 30s, forward to fat cows £5, and springing heifers up to £6; too w®r« sold at 8* to Idi.
