PATEA BY-ELECTION.

LABOR CAMPAIGN (Contributed.) Mr. Lewis Mdlvride and Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P., addressed a very fine meeting at Maxwelltown on Wednesday, and met with a splendid reception. Mr. Siddall occupied the chair. Mr. Holland dealt trenchantly with the ineptitude of latter day Liberalism, and showed by quoting the division lists that on all fundamental questions the Liberals voted always with Reform and against Labor. On the motion of Messrs. I. A. Smith and Larsen, the speakers were accorded a hearty vote of thunks. Messrs. J. McCombs, M.P. for Lyttelton, and E. J. Howard, M.P. for Christchurch South, addressed a crowded meeting in the Grand Theatre, Hawera, on Wednesday evening, Mr. P. O’Dea jjiresiding. Messrs. W. E. Parry, M.P<> and F. N. Bartram, M.P., who had just arrived from Auckland, also sp’oke a few words. The speakers were given an excellent hearing, and at the conclusion were accorded a very hearty vote of thanks, together with an expression of confidence in the Labor Party, and three hearty cheers were also given for Labor.

During the meeting the chairman (Mr. P. O’Dea) read a telegram from the secretary of the A.S.RK branch at Wanganui (Mr. J. Duggan) wishing Mr McIlvride success and urging all railwaymen to vote L&bor on election day.
