“THE BOOT CASE.” By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Evidence in “the boot case,” as- it has come to be known during the weeks it has been before the public, was concluded this morning before Mr Cutten, S.M., and counsel addressed the Court this afternoon. The defendant is Ernest E. Leaning, of Queen Street, who is charged on the prosecution of the Board of Trade with having sold a pair of surgical boots at a price which was declared to be unreasonably high, namely £4 19s Gd. The Magistrate reserved his decision. DOMINION DRIVERS’ AWARD. Dunedin, Last Night. The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr Hagger) conducted a sitting of the Conciliation Council here to consider framing a Dominion Drivers’ Award. The sitting occupied two days, and to-day sat continuously till after 7 p.m., by which time a complete agreement on what was regarded by both sides as a very satisfactory basis was reached, and duly signed. Details of the settlements are withheld from publication in the meantime. FIRE IN WELLINGTON. Wellington, April 7. A fire last evening did considerable damage to a factory owned and occupied by Samuel Triester and Co., hat and cap manufacturers. The outbreak is attributed to the fusing of an electric wire. The stock was badly damaged.
