Bail to-day was fixed at £l5OO, and Esmonde was remanded for a week.—Aus. and N.Z Cable Assn. Ottawa, April 5. Esmonde’s arrest at Vancouver followed on a speech by the Mayor, Mr. Gate, to an unemployed deputation. He strongly condemned the recent demonstration including the singing of the ‘Red Flag,” and then ordered the police to arrest Esmonde on a charge of sedition, contained in his speech. Esmonde • remained in Vancouver notwithstanding his promise to depart for England immediately he landed.
