PROGRESS OF TARANAKI.
OUTSIDE HELP NEEDED. CO-OPERATION WITH JVELLINGTON. At yesterday's meeting of the executive of the Taranaki Progress Leacn>e at Stratford, Mr \V P. Kirkwood (vicepresident) again brought up \he question of enlisting the support of the Wellington Progress League in connection with matters of mutual interest and more particularly the matter of securing better treatment for Taranaki in regard to the construction of the Stratfo rd -Ok a hukunt rail way. Mr. Kirkwood maint-a-ined that the league could not adopt a policy of isolation and they must have assistance from outside in protesting to the Government if they were to get justice-for themselves. lie certainly thought they should co-operate with other leagues where the'r interests were mutual, and he hop'd the members would agree to his resolution, which had been modified from the form in which it. was previously presentct|. He moved: "That the Taranaki Progress League work in unison with the Wellington Progress League in so far a® it is compatible with thj mutual interests of both leagues.” He explained that in framing his resolution he had carefully avoided anv suggestion of affiliation and ho thought that unless they did something along the lines he suggested, they would findthemselve® up against a wall and would stand there. The resolution was carried unanimously.
